CIIMAR Open Day

On 20 September 2026, TextileWaVE took part in the CIIMAR Open Day, introducing visitors to the project and giving the general public the opportunity to take a closer look at how textile biodegradation can occur under composting conditions.

For the event, the TextileWaVE team created a visual representation of the composting process using three composters, each representing a different stage of degradation. The younger visitors also had the opportunity to learn through interactive games about the importance of textile waste management and more sustainable approaches to textile end-of-life.

The activity provided a simple and engaging way to explain the research behind TextileWaVE and to show how microorganisms and composting conditions can contribute to the biodegradation of cellulosic textiles.

Through activities like this, TextileWaVE aims to bring research closer to society and encourage conversations about how we can rethink the end-of-life of textiles.
